Our office is in Udyog Bhavan over on Walchand Hirachand Marg. It’s right in the heart of Ballard Estate at number 29. If you walk around here, you see all those old, heavy stone buildings that look like they’ve been there forever. Our office is just one of many in this part of town. Somaya & Kalappa Consultants Pvt. Ltd. has been operating from here, and the atmosphere of the area really rubs off on you. The high ceilings and the wide streets outside make it feel different from the newer parts of Mumbai. Getting here can be a bit of a walk from the station, but it’s a good way to start the day. Inside the office, it’s mostly just us working through various projects. There is no big flashy sign out front, just the name on the directory. We spend a lot of time looking at plans and talking through things. The windows look out onto the street where people are always rushing around between the big offices and the port area. It feels very solid and practical. There isn’t much in the way of decoration, just what we need to get the consulting work done properly. It’s a quiet enough place once you’re inside, away from the midday heat and the sound of the taxis. We just stick to our routine and handle the paperwork as it comes in. We don't worry about sounding corporate; we just focus on the projects.
