Tamanna Collection

Our place is in Santoshi Chawl, over in the Mukund Nagar part of Dharavi near Sion West. It’s a very busy neighborhood where everyone lives and works very close together. You can always hear children playing in the alley or neighbors talking loudly while we go about our daily business. We deal with various collections of items here. The space is quite small, like most of the shops in this area of Dharavi, but we pack a lot of stock into it. It’s a bit of a scramble sometimes to find exactly what a customer is looking for in the high stacks. We don’t have any fancy displays or bright neon lights to attract people. It’s just us and the goods we have for sale on the shelves. People walk by our door all day long, and sometimes they stop in to see what new things we have. It’s a very personal way to do things because we know most of the people who live on the street. Dharavi is a place where everyone is working hard to make a living, and we are no different from our neighbors. We spend a lot of time organizing and re-organizing the items to make more room. Sometimes the heavy monsoon rain makes it a bit tricky because the lanes get narrow and very muddy, but we manage to keep the shop open. It’s our little corner of the city. We don’t pretend to be a big mall store or a fancy boutique. We’re just a local collection shop in the middle.
