Down at Shop No. 18 in the Highway Park building, things stay pretty busy with all the fabrics we have coming in and out. Being right here in Thakur Complex, we see a lot of people walking by while they're out doing their regular shopping. Kandivali East has changed a lot over the years, but we have stayed right here in the same spot for a long time. We have stacks of handloom items piled up on the shelves, from cotton sheets to those heavy curtains people like for their homes. It’s a small shop, so you really have to watch your step so you don’t trip over a bundle of cloth waiting to be unpacked. My cousin and I run the place mostly. We open up around ten and usually don't leave until the last customer is satisfied or the mall starts to quiet down for the night. We get our stock from a few different weavers we’ve known for a long time. It’s not about having some big corporate brand name for us. We just like the way these fabrics feel and we know our regulars like them too. Sometimes the traffic on the highway makes it noisy, but inside the shop, it’s mostly just the sound of folding clothes and chatting with neighbors.
