Mumbai Zari

You can find us at 12 Koliwada Plot, right near the Infant School. It’s a local neighborhood and everyone around here knows where the school is. We do zari work, which involves a lot of fine detail and sitting in one spot for a long time. The shop is a bit small but it has everything we need for our needles and threads. We’ve been at Mumbai Zari for many years now. Sometimes the kids from the school make a lot of noise during their breaks, but we’ve grown used to it. It’s a quiet kind of work where you have to be careful with your hands. We don't have a big sign or a fancy front. People mostly find us through word of mouth or because they live nearby. We spend our days working on different fabrics and designs. It can be tiring on the eyes after a few hours. We aren't a big factory, just a small place where the work is done by hand. Being in Koliwada means we see the same faces every day. We just keep our heads down and finish the pieces as they come in. There isn't much more to it than that. We just enjoy the craft and staying busy in our little corner of the area. It takes a lot of patience to get the stitching right every single time we start a new piece.
