Singh Pan House

You can find us in the Ashoka Shopping Centre on L T Marg, which is over in Ghatkopar West. Being inside a shopping centre means we don't get the rain on us, but it’s still a very busy atmosphere. We have our little corner set up with all the jars and the mirrors that you usually see in a pan shop. We get a lot of people who are just finishing their shopping or heading to the station nearby. We spend our time prepping the kattha and sorting through the betel leaves to find the good ones. The counter is always a bit wet from the water we use to keep the leaves fresh. Ghatkopar West is a lively neighborhood, so there is never a dull moment. We have a small radio that we keep on low volume most of the day for some background noise. It’s just a basic pan house. We don't have any fancy seating, so people just stand around and talk for a minute while we prepare their order. Sometimes it gets a bit loud in the shopping centre, but we just focus on what we’re doing. We’ve got the regular stuff like mukhwas and some candies for the kids too. It's a small space, but we keep it organized in our own way. We see the same shopkeepers from the other stores every afternoon when they need a break. It's just our daily routine.
