About Shrimati Sarees – Fashion & Trends in Mumbai
Running Shrimati Sarees here in Sagar Arcade is mostly about dealing with the rush of the railway station. Being near the station in Vile Parle means there is always a crowd moving past the door. The trains rumble by, and you can almost set your watch by the sound. We’ve been at this spot on Bannerghatta Main Road for a while now. The shop is filled with rows of sarees, mostly folded up on the shelves. Sometimes the colors look different depending on if it’s a cloudy day or if the sun is hitting the front glass. We don't do much fancy advertising. Most of our day is spent unfolding cloth for someone to look at and then folding it back up again. It’s a lot of work for the hands, but it’s what we know. The arcade gets a bit stuffy in the afternoons, so we usually have the door propped open. You see the same faces every morning, people heading to work or coming back home. We keep a small stool by the counter for when the legs get tired. The floor is a bit worn down in the spots where we walk the most. It is not a perfect showroom, but it’s where we spend our time. We just try to keep the shelves stocked and the floors swept. It’s a simple business, really. We handle the sarees, talk to the customers, and manage the inventory as it comes in.
