I am Ashokkumar P Jain. My place is at 227/C on D N Road. It’s right opposite the Johnson & Johnson building, which is a good landmark because the traffic here is always moving. D N Road is beautiful with all the old architecture, but it’s also very loud and dusty. My office is in one of those old buildings with the high ceilings. It’s got a lot of character, even if the lift is sometimes temperamental. I’ve been here for many years. I started with very little and just kept at it. Now, it’s just a place where I come every morning to handle my affairs. It’s not a corporate showroom. It’s a workspace filled with ledgers and old furniture. I like the history of this area. You can feel the old Bombay spirit here. I deal with people directly. No middleman, no fancy titles. Just me at my desk. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the markets. It’s a simple existence. I don’t feel the need to change how I do things just because the world is getting more digital. My door is usually open, and the windows look out onto the busy street. It’s a lot of work, but I’ve grown fond of the chaos of D N Road. The building has those thick stone walls that keep it cool even when the sun is beating down. I’ve spent many afternoons just listening to the distant sound of the traffic while I work. I don’t have any high-tech gadgets in my office. Just the basics that work.
