Shree Kardhar Collection

Shree Kardhar Collection is right next to the Ghatkopar railway station on the west side. We are at shop number 15 in the Laxmi building. Being so close to the station means we see thousands of people rushing past our door every single day. It’s a very noisy spot with the trains and the crowds, but it keeps us on our toes. The shop is quite narrow, so we have to stack our clothes and fabrics all the way up to the ceiling. We use a long stick to reach the stuff on the top shelves. My cousins and I run the place together. We don’t really have a lunch break; we just eat when the shop is empty for a minute. Most of our customers are people getting off the train who want to pick something up quickly before heading home. We have a lot of regular items that people need for their daily wear. It can get very hot inside during the summer months because the fan doesn't reach every corner. We don't have a big changing room, just a small curtained area in the back. It’s a simple business. We buy our stock from the wholesale markets and try to keep the prices fair for the local crowd. During festival seasons, we stay open much later because the whole market area stays lit up. It’s a lot of standing all day, but we like the energy.
