S. R. Mehta & Sons

S. R. Mehta & Sons is a family-run place with a couple of different spots. We have our main office at 52/A, Panchratna on the ground floor over in the Opera House area. If you know Mumbai, you know how tight and busy Opera House is with all the diamond and jewelry trade. It’s a historic building and we have been there for generations. We also have a space at 2/C, Ratnapuri Building on Gaushala Lane in Malad East. That one is a bit more tucked away, but it’s just as busy for us. Moving between the two locations takes up a lot of our time because of the city traffic. We deal with a lot of people every day, from long-time regulars to new faces who just heard the name. Our work is very precise, so we spend a lot of time hunched over our desks with good lighting. It’s not a glamorous job, despite being in the jewelry hub. It involves a lot of counting, checking, and double-checking everything. The staff is mostly family or people who have been with us so long they might as well be. We don’t have a big marketing department or anything like that. We just rely on the fact that we’ve been around for a long time and people know where to find us. It’s a lot of hard work keeping two locations running smoothly, but we just take it one day at a time. It is how things have always been for us and we just keep going.
