Ragesree School Of Music

Ragesree School Of Music is located in Andheri West, right on Oil Mill Road in the Arvind Nagar area. It’s a residential neighborhood, so it feels very different from the busy commercial parts of Mumbai. We’ve got house number 54, which is an older building. You can usually tell you’re close because you’ll hear someone practicing the scales on a sitar or a violin from the street. The rooms are quite small, and we’ve had to pack them with instruments and music stands. There’s always a bit of a struggle to find a place to sit without bumping into a guitar case or a tabla set. We don't have soundproofing like a professional studio, so the sounds of the different classes often bleed into each other. It creates a strange but nice kind of background noise. The walls are covered with photos of old musicians and some awards we’ve picked up over the years, many of which are a bit dusty now. The floor is mostly bare, and we ask everyone to leave their shoes at the entrance, so there’s always a pile of footwear by the door. We don't have a big marketing budget or anything; most people find us just by walking past or hearing about us from a neighbor. It’s a simple place where we spend our afternoons teaching kids and adults how to play. We have been here for a long time and the building feels like a second home.
