R. Ratilal & Co.

You can find us at 111 Mahatma Gandhi Road, right in the Fort area. It’s an old part of town with those big stone buildings and high ceilings. R. Ratilal & Co. has been around this neighborhood for quite a long time. The office feels like a bit of a time capsule sometimes. We have these heavy wooden desks that have probably been here since the business started. Fort is a busy place, full of lawyers and bankers and people in suits, but we just do our own thing. We handle trade and some distribution work. It’s not the kind of place with a lot of modern gadgets. We still use a lot of paper and the filing cabinets are overflowing. The windows are large but they let in a lot of the street noise from MG Road. You get used to the sound of the buses and the honking after a few days. We don't really have a marketing team or anyone telling us how to sound professional. We just talk to our customers like regular people because that’s what we are. Some of our clients have been coming to us for decades, and they usually just walk in without an appointment. We sit down, have some tea, and talk about the work. It’s a slow and steady kind of life here, even if the city outside is moving fast. We close up around six and the commute home is always a bit of a struggle, but we're back every morning.
