Nagdevi Street is one of those places where you really have to know where you’re going. We are at Number 34, but you have to come up to the third floor to find us at Office 307. It’s a trading business, so it’s mostly about managing the flow of goods that come through the district. Being on Nagdevi means we are right in the heart of the hardware and tools market. The stairs are narrow and people are always carrying heavy loads up and down. It can get a bit loud with all the shouting and the sounds of the street below, but that’s just life in this part of Mumbai. We spend our time tracking shipments and making sure our customers get what they ordered. It’s a lot of paperwork and phone calls, honestly. Our office isn’t very big, so every bit of space is used for something, whether it’s files or small samples of what we sell. We usually have a fan going all day to keep the air moving. Sometimes a neighbor from another office will pop in for a chat or to borrow a stapler. It’s a small community in this building. We don’t do anything fancy, just buy and sell and make sure the math adds up at the end of the day. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late evening. This is just how we have always done things here.
