I’ve been working at Pizza House in Santacruz East for quite a while now. We are tucked away in Shop No 7 at Sagar Avenue in the Vakola area. It’s not a huge place, just a regular spot where we get the dough ready every single morning. Sometimes the oven gets really hot and the whole shop feels a bit cramped, especially when people are standing around waiting for their orders to finish. We see a lot of the same faces from the neighborhood coming by. I usually spend most of my day behind the counter or checking on the toppings in the fridge. It’s a lot of work keeping everything tidy. People ask if we have fancy seating, but we just have the basics. Life here in Vakola is always moving fast. You can hear the traffic outside while the cheese is melting. We try to keep things decent because nobody likes a soggy crust. It isn't always perfect, maybe the phone rings too much or we run out of a certain topping by evening, but that's just how a small shop goes. Most of the time it’s just about getting the boxes stacked and making sure the bikes are ready for the guys to take the food out. I like being in this part of Santacruz because it feels like a real community where everyone knows where to find a quick bite. It’s just us doing what we do every day.
