Patan Patola

Our shop is over in Dahisar, specifically at Shop No B 201 in the Saraswati Apart building, which is part of the Byraveswara Industrial Estate. It’s a bit of an interesting mix having apartments and industrial units all in the same general area. You can hear the hum of the factories nearby while people are just going about their daily lives upstairs. Patan Patola has its roots in traditional work, and we try to keep that going in our own small way. The space is filled with the smell of fabric and the sound of the nearby street. It’s not the easiest place to find if you’re just passing through, but the people who know us usually find their way back without much trouble. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know the inventory inside and out. The morning sun hits the front window just right for an hour or so, and then it’s mostly shade for the rest of the day, which helps keep the temperature down. We spend a lot of time folding, checking patterns, and making sure everything is in its place. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, and we just sit and wait it out, talking about whatever is in the news. It’s a quiet existence for the most part, away from the main rush of the city, just doing what we know how to do best in our little corner of Dahisar. We just keep at it.
