New Bombay Kirana Store

Our shop is at number 3 in the Malad town area, right near Nutan Vidya Mandir school. Because we are so close to the school, we get a lot of kids coming in for pencils or snacks, but mostly we serve the local households. We carry all the usual kirana items like grains, oils, and household cleaners. It is a modest setup. We don't have a lot of space for big displays, so things are mostly kept in their original boxes or stacked on the wooden shelves we have had for years. The floor is old stone, and the fan makes a bit of noise, but it keeps the air moving. My father started this and we have just kept it going. We know which brand of tea a neighbor prefers and who needs their sugar in small quantities. It is about being part of the street. In the mornings, it is quite hectic when everyone is rushing to get things before work. By the afternoon, it slows down a bit, and that is when we do the accounts or restock the shelves. We don't use a computer for everything; a lot is still written down in a big ledger. It is a reliable place. If you need something for dinner and you have run out, we are usually open. We aren't trying to be a big mall, just a corner store that helps the people living around here get what they need.
