If you walk down Bhuleshwar Road towards the Kabutarkhana, you’ll find us at number 103. The pigeons are always flying around outside, and there’s a constant sound of wings and people shouting to be heard over the traffic. Natraj Fashion is a small place, packed floor to ceiling with rolls of fabric and readymade stuff. It’s a bit of a maze inside. We have to move three things just to find one, but we know exactly where everything is hidden. The light isn't great, but we’ve got a couple of bright bulbs that help us see the colors properly. We’ve been here for years, through the monsoons and the heatwaves. During the wedding seasons, this whole area goes crazy, and we barely have time to sit down or drink a glass of water. Our regular customers know they have to squeeze past the racks to get to the counter. We don’t bother with fancy displays or mannequins that look like movie stars. We just put the clothes out where people can see them. It’s a bit messy, I’ll admit, but that’s how a real shop in Bhuleshwar looks. We talk to the vendors outside and sometimes buy snacks from the guy with the cart. It’s a busy life, and there’s never a quiet moment, but we wouldn’t really know what to do with ourselves if it was any different. Every day is different and we just handle it.
