Namita

My business, which I just call Namita, is run out of unit 201 in the Makwana Apartment. We are located on Mahakali Caves Road in Vile Parle East. It’s a residential building, so it doesn’t feel like a traditional shop at all. You have to come up to the second floor to find us. I chose this spot because it’s a bit quieter than being right on the main road, though the traffic outside on Mahakali Caves Road can still get pretty loud during rush hour. The space inside is mostly filled with fabric and half-finished projects. I have a large table where I do most of my cutting and planning. It’s not a polished studio; there are threads on the floor and scraps of paper with measurements written on them pinned to the walls. I spend a lot of my day here, usually with the window open to get some air. People usually come by after calling me first, since it’s an apartment. It is a very personal way to work, I think. I don't have a staff or a big team, it's just me handling the daily tasks. Vile Parle East has a nice community feel, and I’ve gotten to know the other people in the building. It’s a simple setup that works for what I do. I don't have a big sign outside, just a small one by the door so people know they’re at the right place. It works for me.
