Mumbai Zari Arts

We are located at Shop Number 361 in the Kem Bandra Plot area, which is near Jogeshwari East and New Thippasandra. It is a bit of a journey to get here if you aren't from the neighborhood. The shop is quite small and it is usually packed with rolls of fabric and all kinds of threads. Zari arts is what we do at Mumbai Zari Arts, so there is always a lot of glitter and gold thread lying around on the floor. It’s a messy process but that is just how it is. We have a couple of wooden stools for when we need to sit down and focus on a piece of embroidery. The lighting in the shop is very bright so we can see the fine details of the work. People walk past the shop all day long, and it gets quite loud with the street noise. We don't have a big fancy storefront or a showroom. It is mostly just a workspace where the actual making happens. Sometimes customers come in to see the progress on their orders, and we have to clear a spot for them to stand. It’s a very local kind of business. We know the other shopkeepers around here. It’s just us doing our craft and trying to keep up with the orders that come in. It’s hard work on the eyes and the hands, but we’ve been at this spot for a long time now.
