Muktas Kitchen

We are located in the Chembur Zaveri Bazar 41400 area. It's a very busy part of the city with lots of people walking around. I started Muktas Kitchen because I always liked cooking for people. It isn't a big place with waiters and fancy menus. It’s more of a simple kitchen where we prepare meals for the people working nearby. The Zaveri Bazar area has so many people moving around all day. We start cooking the dal and the vegetables early so everything is ready for the lunch rush. The steam from the rice cookers makes the room quite humid. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of wall fans that don't do much. I have two women who help me with the chopping and cleaning. We talk a lot while we work to pass the time. Most of our customers are the same people every day. They just want a meal that feels like it came from home. We don't use fancy plates, just simple ones that are easy to wash. Sometimes we run out of food earlier than expected if a big group comes in. It’s hard work being on your feet all day in the heat. By the time we finish the cleaning at night, my back usually hurts. But we show up again the next morning to start over. It's a regular life.
