Meera Music Class

The music class is right here in Andheri West, unit 25/26/407. It is up a few flights of stairs, and you can usually hear someone playing even before you reach the door. We have a couple of rooms where we keep the instruments. There is an old harmonium that has been here forever and a few guitars leaning against the walls. It is not a soundproof studio, so you can definitely hear the cars and honking from the street outside while we practice. I spend a lot of time sitting on the floor with students, teaching them how to hold a note or find the right chord. The curtains are a bit faded from the sun, and the rug is showing some wear. We have classes in the mornings and then again in the evening when people are off from work or school. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded when a group class is finishing and the next students are arriving early. We don't have any fancy recording equipment or anything like that. It is just a place to learn and play music. I have to tune the instruments pretty often because the humidity in Mumbai messes with the strings. It is a simple life of scales and melodies in a small corner of Andheri. People come here to escape the city noise for a bit, even if we are making some noise of our own. It is just a normal, creative space.
