Madh Island feels like a completely different world even though it is part of Malad. Our spot is at Room No 1, near the Shivaji Nagar Gate No 2. It’s not your typical high-street location. You have the sea nearby and the air smells like salt and fish sometimes. We serve burgers and fries to whoever comes through, mostly locals or people visiting the beach on weekends. The building is just a regular structure on Cts 573. It gets very crowded when the sun starts to set and everyone is looking for a quick snack. We have a small team here. Most of us live nearby and we walk or take a rickshaw to work. The floor gets a bit messy when it rains because of the mud outside, so we are always mopping. We don't have the fancy decor of the bigger outlets in the city. It’s more of a practical place to grab a bite. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait for the generator to kick in. The kids from the nearby colonies come in for ice cream and it gets quite loud. We just keep the kitchen moving. It is a bit of a trek to get here if you are coming from the main Malad area, but for the people living near Gate No 2, we are the main place for a burger. We just work our shifts and keep things going.
