About Mayers Kashmir Arts & Crafts – Industrial Plant & Machines in Mumbai
Our spot is over in Navrangpura, specifically in the Fair Deal House building. Being at A-409 means we are on one of the upper floors, right across from the St. Xavier’s Ladies Hostel. It’s a busy area, especially with all the students and the traffic at Swastik Char Rasta. Inside the office, it’s a bit of a mess with stacks of shawls, some carpets rolled up in the corners, and boxes waiting to be taped shut. We deal with various crafts and things from Kashmir, but it’s mostly just us handling the inventory and making sure things get shipped to the right addresses. The elevator in the building is old and sometimes it’s faster to just take the stairs, even with a heavy box in your arms. We don’t have a fancy showroom. If someone comes by, they usually just see us sitting at our desks surrounded by piles of textiles. Navrangpura is a good place to be, even if the parking is a nightmare during the day. We usually grab lunch from the small stalls nearby. The office gets a bit warm in the afternoon sun, so we keep the fans going at full speed. It is a lot of manual work, counting items and checking for snags in the fabric, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We aren't doing anything high-tech, just keeping the tradition of these items moving from one hand to the next.
