About Masala Dani Club – Food & Beverages in Mumbai
It’s usually pretty loud around here in Chandivali Industrial Area, what with all the trucks and workshops nearby. Masala Dani Club started because we just wanted a place that smelled like a proper kitchen should. My hands usually smell like cumin or turmeric by noon, and that’s just how it goes. We don't have fancy decor or anything like that. There are some old chairs and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but the stove is always going. People from the offices nearby drop in when they’re tired of eating those packed lunches. It gets sweaty in the afternoons, especially when the fans are just moving the warm air around. We try to keep things organized but sometimes the spice jars get mixed up during the rush. It’s a small space, really. You’ll see us grinding stuff in the back while someone else is trying to fix the leaky tap in the washroom. It’s not a big operation. We just handle the food and make sure the tea is hot. Sometimes the delivery guy gets lost because the industrial estate is like a maze, so we end up standing out on the road waving him down. It’s just us here, trying to get the flavors right without making a big fuss about it. If you come by, you’ll probably find me arguing with the vegetable vendor about the price of coriander. That’s just a normal Tuesday for us at the club.
