Our place, Marine Marketing Services, is located down at 4/8 Lakdi Bunder Road in the Darukhana area. If you’ve ever been to Reay Road, you know it’s a heavy industrial zone with a lot of history in ship breaking and marine supplies. We’ve been here for years, dealing with all sorts of hardware for boats and larger vessels. The shop is full of heavy items like valves, chains, and various metal fittings that we keep stacked on old wooden pallets. It’s not the cleanest neighborhood, and our office is just a small partitioned space in the corner of the warehouse. We spend most of our time answering the phone or talking to truck drivers who are dropping off or picking up supplies. The air around here is salty and usually smells like scrap metal, which is just part of the job. We don’t have a marketing team or a polished image. We’re just local people who know a thing or two about marine equipment. It’s a lot of manual labor, moving things around and checking that we have what the customers are asking for. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to work by the light coming through the big front doors. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but we like the pace of the docks and the people we meet. We just focus on keeping enough stock so nobody leaves empty-handed.
