Mahavideh Art Jewellery is over in Vile Parle. It is a busy part of the city, and we have been part of the neighborhood for a while. We don't have one of those big, flashy showrooms you see on the main roads. Instead, we have a more modest setup where we focus on art jewellery. This usually means pieces that look traditional but are made so people can wear them without worrying too much. Our days are mostly spent organizing the stock and talking to women from the local area who come in looking for something to wear to a function or a party. Vile Parle has a specific feel to it, and we try to match that by being straightforward with everyone who walks through the door. The shop can get a bit crowded in the evenings when everyone is out doing their shopping. We usually have the radio playing in the background or just the sound of the traffic outside. It isn't a complicated business. We get new designs in, we show them to our regulars, and we help people find what they need. Sometimes we spend the whole afternoon just untangling chains or fixing a small bead that came loose. It’s just the usual work that comes with running a small jewellery spot in this part of Mumbai. We don't try to be anything we aren't, we just stay open and keep working.
