I am Madhuri Yadav and I spend most of my days over at Room No 1 in Fort. The building is Shardanand Kutir. It is one of those old places in the Fort area where you can hear the city humming outside all the time. Being on the ground floor, or Room 1 specifically, means I see everyone coming in and out of the main entrance. It is not a big fancy office with glass walls or anything like that. The walls have been painted a few times over the years and the fan makes a bit of noise when it is on high, but it gets the job done. People usually find me here from the morning until the evening. Fort is a busy part of town, so there is always someone rushing past the door. I have been in Shardanand Kutir for a while now and I have gotten used to the way the light hits the entrance in the afternoon. It gets a bit dusty because of the road outside, but that is just how it is in this part of Mumbai. I keep my desk near the window so I can see what is happening. Sometimes the mailman stops for a chat, or the neighbor from the next room pops in. It is a simple setup. I do not see the need for much more than a desk, a couple of chairs, and my paperwork. It feels like a real place. (251 words)
