Madhu Sarees

You can find Madhu Sarees on the first floor of the Jal Laxmi Building. We are right on Kalbadevi Road, across from Old Hanuman Lane. If you have ever been to Kalbadevi, you know how incredibly crowded it gets with all the cloth merchants and buyers everywhere. Our shop numbers are 360 to 364. Being on the first floor means it is a little bit away from the direct street noise, but it is still very busy. We have been in this building for many years. The stairs are old and people are always rushing up and down with big bundles of fabric on their shoulders. We spend our days unfolding and folding sarees. It is a lot of physical work, keeping every single piece tucked away properly. The building has that very old Mumbai feel to it. Sometimes the electricity flickers or it gets really hot in the afternoons, but we just keep the fans going and stay busy. We are not a big designer outlet with air conditioning and soft music playing. It is just a traditional saree shop in a very old part of the city. We know all our neighbors and the tea seller nearby. It is a real community here. We just focus on our stock and the people who climb the stairs to see what we have. It is nothing fancy, just Madhu Sarees doing what we have always done at this address on Kalbadevi Road.
