Our place, Machines & Tools, is situated at 5 Sardar Pratap Singh Industrial Estate in Bhandup West. We are right on LBS Marg, which is one of the busiest roads you could imagine. The traffic on LBS Marg is constant, so there is always a background noise of cars and buses. Being inside the industrial estate feels a bit different though; it has its own rhythm of work and movement. Our unit is number 5, and it is a straightforward industrial space. We deal with exactly what the name says—machines and tools. The floor is usually covered with equipment and parts we are moving around. It’s a bit of a gritty environment, but that’s the nature of the industry. We don’t spend much time worrying about how the place looks to outsiders. As long as we can find the right tool when we need it, we are happy. The staff here has been around for a bit, so we all know the drill. We see the same faces every day in the estate, and there is a sense of belonging among the different units. When the workday ends, we lock up and join the crowd heading back onto the main road. It’s a repetitive life, but there is something solid about it. We just provide what people ask for and try to keep things moving along without any complications.
