M. R. International

M. R. International is based out of room 17 in Commerce House, which is an old building on Ropewalk Lane. If you know the Fort area in Mumbai, you know it’s full of these narrow streets and historic structures. Our office has those really high ceilings and heavy doors that you don’t see in new buildings anymore. It’s a bit of a maze getting here, and the stairs can be a workout if the lift is acting up, which happens more often than we’d like. We handle a lot of international paperwork and coordination from this small space. There are files stacked on almost every flat surface, and the sound of the city outside is always there, even with the windows shut. Ropewalk Lane is a busy little stretch, and finding a place to park is basically impossible, so we all take the train. Lunch usually comes from one of the local dabbas or a quick sandwich from a stall nearby. We’ve been in Commerce House for a long time, and the wooden floors creak whenever someone walks by. It’s not a modern, shiny office, but it has a lot of character and it’s right in the heart of the business district. We spend our days on the phone or typing away, trying to keep up with everything. It’s a bit cramped and loud, but it’s our home away from home in the city.
