Indian Scientific Glass Industries

Our workshop is at No. 101-a Shilp on Pandurang Budhkar Marg in Lower Parel. This part of Mumbai has changed so much since we first started. There are big glass towers all around us now, but we are still here doing our thing. We make scientific glass, the kind used in laboratories and for chemistry work. It is very precise stuff. You cannot be off by even a tiny bit or the whole piece is useless for the scientists. We have glassblowers who have been doing this for a long time. They sit at their benches with torches, shaping tubes and flasks by hand. It is interesting to watch, even if it is just our daily routine. The air gets pretty warm in here because of the flames. We do not have a big corporate office or a PR team. It is mostly just the sound of the torches and the occasional clink of glass. We take orders from universities and research labs across the city. They tell us what they need, and we figure out how to make it happen. Sometimes a piece is really complicated and takes a few tries to get right. We do not mind. We just keep at it until it is finished. It is a quiet, steady kind of work. We have stayed in Lower Parel because it is where we have always been.
