About Laavanya Institute Of Traditional Arts – Coating & Finishing in Mumbai
Our place is called Laavanya Institute Of Traditional Arts and you can find us at Malabar Hill. We are on the ground floor of Jaldarshan, specifically in unit 2/B. It’s a nice part of Mumbai, a bit quieter than the rest of the city, which helps when you are trying to focus on art. Inside, the rooms are usually filled with the smells of clay, oil paints, or sometimes just old paper. We spend our days teaching traditional techniques to whoever wants to learn. It’s not a fancy school with a bunch of rules; it’s more like a workshop where things get a bit messy. You might see a half-finished painting leaning against a wall or some brushes soaking in a jar of water. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who really like traditional styles. Sometimes the sea breeze from the coast reaches us here at Malabar Hill, which is nice when it gets hot. We aren't looking to become a giant institution. We just like keeping these old ways of making art alive for the local community. People come in, sit down, and work on their projects for a few hours. There is no pressure to be perfect right away. We just guide them along and share what we know. It is a slow kind of life, but it suits us and the neighborhood perfectly.
