Star Art Traders

Star Art Traders is on the ground floor of Bhagyodaya, which is located in the Meadows area of Fort. This part of Mumbai is full of old buildings and narrow streets, and we fit right in. We deal with various trading items, mostly things that local shops and artists might need. The shop is a bit cramped because we try to keep a lot of stock on hand. You have to be careful where you step because there are often crates or rolls of material sitting on the floor. The lighting isn't the best, but we know our way around the shelves even in the dark. Being in Fort means we get all sorts of people walking in, from students to office clerks. We don't do any big advertising; we just rely on people seeing us when they walk past. The building itself has a lot of character, with high ceilings and thick walls that keep it somewhat cool. We spend our days answering questions and cutting materials to size for customers. It is a lot of physical work, moving things around and making sure the inventory is right. We use an old calculator and keep our receipts in a drawer. It is a very manual process, but it keeps us connected to what we are doing. We’ve been in this spot for years and don’t plan on moving. It is just a regular shop doing regular business in the city.
