Krishna Dance Academy

Up on the first floor of Oscar Hall in Andheri West, you will find Krishna Dance Academy. We are located on M V Lane, which is in the Adarsh area. The hall is quite large, which is necessary because dancers need room to move without bumping into each other. We have some mirrors along one wall so people can see what they are doing. The floor is made of wood, and it has some scuffs and marks from all the shoes over the years. We didn't go for a very polished look because it’s a place for hard work and sweat. Sometimes the music is loud, and you can hear it from down the street, but the neighbors are mostly used to it by now. We teach different styles depending on who is available that day. It is a bit of a climb up the stairs, but it’s good for a warm-up. We have a small area for people to change their clothes and leave their bags, though it gets a bit cluttered on Saturday mornings. There isn't a fancy lobby with a receptionist; usually, whoever is teaching just checks people in at the door. It’s a very practical space. We spend our time counting beats and repeating steps until they look right. Sometimes we have to sweep the floor twice a day because of the dust that comes in from the street. It is just one of those chores we do to keep the place ready for the next group.
