Kinjal Collection

You can find us at number 18 Shami Gali, inside the Swadeshi Market on Kalbadevi Road. This is where we have Kinjal Collection. This area is very old and the lanes are so narrow that two people can barely walk side by side without bumping into each other. Our shop is filled with different fabrics and clothing collections that we stack up high on the shelves. It smells like fresh cotton and old wood in here most of the time. We spend a lot of time unfolding long pieces of cloth for people to see the patterns and then folding it all back up neatly. It is a slow process but we do not really mind it. The market has a lot of history and we feel like a small part of that story. We have a tiny temple in the corner where we light incense every morning before we open the shutters. The neighbors are all friendly and we often share tea or talk about the latest market news. It gets very busy during the festival seasons and then the shop feels even smaller than it already is. We use a simple handheld calculator for all the bills and keep our records in big bound books. There isn't any fancy lighting, just some tube lights that make everything look clear for the customers. We have a small wooden bench outside for people to sit if they are waiting for someone. It is a traditional way of doing things.
