Kalpana B Chheda

I work out of Dadar West, right in the heart of the flower market area. The address is 406, near the Sama Market and the bridge. If you’ve ever been to Dadar, you know how crowded and loud it gets with all the vendors and the commuters from the station. My place is right in the middle of all that action. I spend my days surrounded by the smell of marigolds and roses from the stalls downstairs. It’s a very busy environment, and sometimes it feels like the whole city is passing by right under my window. The office or workspace I have isn't very large, but it’s enough for what I need to do. I’ve lived in Mumbai my whole life, so the noise doesn't bother me much anymore. I just put my head down and get on with the day’s tasks. There’s a lot of dust from the bridge and the construction nearby, so I have to clean my desk every single morning. It’s a very practical space, nothing for show. People come to see me because they know I’m here and I’ve been here for a while. It’s hard to find the entrance if you don't know exactly where to look among all the other signs and shops. But that’s Dadar for you, everything is tucked away in corners. I just keep things running as best as I can every day. It's a bit hectic but that is just the way things are.
