Jyoti Sangeet Vidyalaya

If you walk down Shiv Vallabh Road near Bunder Road, you might hear some music coming from 107-B. That’s Jyoti Sangeet Vidyalaya. We’ve been teaching music here for quite a few years. It’s a small place, nothing too grand, but it serves its purpose for the students who come by. We have classes for different instruments and singing. Most of the kids from the nearby streets come here after school hours. It can get a bit noisy in the evenings when everyone is practicing at the same time, but it’s a good kind of noise, I guess. We don’t have a big staff, just a few teachers who know their stuff and enjoy sharing it with others. The rooms are filled with harmoniums, tablas, and some string instruments that have seen better days. Sometimes parents sit outside on the steps waiting for their children to finish their lessons. We try to keep a regular schedule, but things can be a bit flexible depending on when the students can actually make it. It’s not just for kids either; we get a few adults who always wanted to learn but never had the chance before. The building itself is an older one, 107-B, and it’s seen a lot of students come and go over the seasons. We just keep the doors open and keep the lessons going. It’s a simple way to spend the day, surrounded by notes and rhythms. No one is trying to become a superstar here, they just want to learn how to play.
