John Ferns Guitar Classes

Up here in Goregaon East, at B-204, things are usually pretty noisy with the sound of music. John Ferns has been running these guitar classes for a while. It’s not a big studio or anything like that, just a regular space where we keep the instruments. Most days start around noon when the first students show up. You’ll hear a lot of acoustic strumming and maybe some electric stuff if someone is practicing a solo. We have kids coming in after school and then some office people who stop by in the evening to blow off steam. The building is usually quiet otherwise, so the neighbors probably know exactly when our classes start. We have a few extra guitars lying around for people who don't have their own yet. It’s mostly about getting the fingers to move the right way on the strings. Sometimes we spend the whole hour just on two chords. It gets frustrating for the beginners, but that is part of it. We drink a lot of chai in between the sessions. The room is a bit small but it fits what we need. We don't do any big concerts, just focusing on getting people to play a few songs they like. Goregaon gets pretty busy outside, but once you get inside B-204 and start playing, you kind of forget about the traffic and the noise from the street. There is always someone learning a new riff here.
