About Jain Ice Factory – Food & Beverages in Mumbai
We’ve been running Jain Ice Factory on Hanuman Road for as long as I can remember. It’s a real factory setting, not a storefront. We have the big tanks and the machinery for freezing large blocks of ice. The floor is almost always wet, so we all wear rubber boots while we work. Hanuman Road is a busy place, and we have trucks coming and going at all hours. We mostly supply to local markets and fishmongers who need to keep their stuff cold. It’s loud in here because of the compressors, but you get used to the hum after a while. My brothers and I take turns managing the production. It’s not the kind of job where you wear a suit. We are usually covered in frost or water by the end of the shift. The machinery is old, but we know how to fix it when it acts up. We don't have a marketing department or anything like that. People on Hanuman Road know where we are if they need ice. We focus on getting the blocks frozen solid and out the door on time. Sometimes when the summer heat is really bad, we can’t keep up with the demand. Those are the long days. We don't have a fancy philosophy. We just make ice and sell it. That’s been the way of Jain Ice Factory for a long time, and we don't see that changing anytime soon.
