Hari Om Grinding Works

Down in Vikhroli West, we are in the Asha Usha Compound at A-6. It’s an industrial area, so there are a lot of us doing similar kinds of work. Our focus is grinding. We’ve got the wheels spinning most of the day. The compound has a lot of trucks coming in and out, so you have to be careful where you park. It’s a bit cramped inside with all the equipment, but we know where everything is. The walls have some stains and the lighting could be better, but it works for us. We don't have a receptionist or anyone like that. If you come in, you just talk to whoever isn't busy with a machine. We handle all sorts of grinding jobs, big and small. Sometimes a local person brings in something simple, and other times it’s a batch of parts for a bigger shop. Vikhroli has changed a lot, but this compound feels the same as it did years ago. It’s a bit of a rough-and-ready place. We don't mind the noise; it sounds like progress to us. Most of the guys working here have been around for a long time. We drink tea from the stall around the corner twice a day. It’s a routine that keeps us going. We just do the work and go home when the sun goes down. There isn't much more to it than that.
