Gupta Fruit Shop

Gupta Fruit Shop is located at Vazira Naka in Borivali West. We are over in Sharda Estate, Phase II. The shop is mostly outdoors under a bit of cover. We spend the early mornings getting the crates off the trucks and setting everything out so it looks okay. There are always a few flies buzzing around because that’s just what happens with fruit. We have mangoes when they are in season and bananas all year round. The wooden crates are stacked high and some of them are starting to splinter a bit. We use a lot of newspaper to wrap things up for customers. The sidewalk is always a bit crowded right in front of us. People stop by on their way to the station or after they finish their shopping. It is a colorful place but it is also a lot of hard work. Your hands get sticky and your back hurts from lifting the boxes. We have a small stool where one of us sits when it is quiet, but it isn't quiet very often. The traffic on the road is constant and you can hear the buses shifting gears. We don't use any fancy lights, just the natural day and maybe a bulb when it gets dark. It is just a regular fruit stall where we try to keep the produce fresh and the customers moving along.
