Gupta Bhel & Pani Puri House

The shop is right here on 11th Main in M C Layout, Kandivali West. We’ve been serving snacks for years. If you come by in the evening, you’ll see the steam from the pots and hear the sound of the puri shells breaking. It gets pretty loud with all the traffic and people talking, but that’s just how it is around here. We make the spicy water and the sweet chutney every morning. My hands usually smell like coriander and tamarind by noon. It’s hard work standing all day, but we’re used to it. We don't have a big menu. Just the usual bhel, pani puri, and a few other things people like. Sometimes the lines get a bit long, and people have to wait on the pavement, but nobody seems to mind too much as long as the food is fresh. We try to keep things moving fast. The table in the corner has a bit of a wobble, we’ve tried fixing it but it just stays that way. It’s a simple place. We don't bother with fancy decorations or anything. People come here because they know what they’re getting. It’s just us and the food. If we run out of something early, we just close up for the day. That’s how we’ve always done it here in Kandivali. We find that being consistent with the taste is more important than having a big fancy sign outside. Most of our neighbors know us by name, and we like it that way.
