General Abrasives

General Abrasives is situated at 81 Tagore Nagar in Kurla West. We are part of the Shivaji Kutir Mandal area. It’s a crowded part of the city, and the streets are quite narrow. Finding us can be a bit of a challenge if it’s your first time. We have a small space that is mostly filled with stock. The smell of grinding wheels and sandpaper is quite strong when you walk in. We’ve been in Kurla for a long time. It’s a rough and ready kind of place. We don't have any air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that hum loudly. There’s a small desk where we keep the ledger. We still write everything down by hand mostly. It’s easier for us that way. The walls are lined with boxes of different sizes. We know exactly where everything is, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. Usually, it’s just me and one helper. We talk to the other shop owners on the block while we wait for customers. We don’t do any fancy promotions. People come here because they know we have what they need for their metalwork. It’s a humble setup. We close up around seven and head home. It’s honest work and it keeps us going. We keep a spare umbrella by the door because the Kurla rains are unpredictable and the roof has a tiny leak near the entrance.
