The studio is located in the Kewal Industrial Estate on S B Marg. It is unit 801, so we are up a few floors away from the main noise of the road. Inside, there are rolls of fabric and threads everywhere you look. Faiz Fatima Fida Fashion Designe is really just about getting the clothes made right. It is often quite loud with the machines running and people talking over the hum. We spend a lot of time looking at patterns and trying to figure out the best way to cut the cloth. The light in here is good during the afternoon, which helps with the detailed bits. Andheri is always moving fast, and this building is no different. You see people carrying bundles of materials in the hallways all the time. Our space isn't huge, but we make it work by keeping everything tucked into corners. There are sketches pinned to the walls and half-finished pieces hanging on the racks. We don't really do the fancy showroom thing. It is more of a workshop where the actual labor happens. Some days the floor is covered in scraps of silk or cotton. We just sweep it up at the end of the day and start again tomorrow. It is a lot of sitting and focusing on small stitches. Sometimes we stay late when there is a lot to finish. It is just how it goes here. We have a small table where we drink tea during breaks.
