Dolly Tools is on the first floor of number 40 Mody Street, right in the Fort area. Being on the first floor means we have to haul everything up a flight of stairs, which keeps us pretty fit. Mody Street is one of those old, narrow parts of the city where everything feels a bit crowded and historic. Our shop is filled with all sorts of tools and bits of hardware that we've accumulated. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside with all the shelves, but it has a good feel to it. We spend a lot of time organizing and reorganizing because we keep getting new stock in. The light from the windows isn't great, so we have to keep the overhead lamps on all day. It gets pretty noisy outside with all the street vendors and the traffic moving through Fort. We mostly deal with people who work nearby or know us from our years of being in this building. There’s no fancy lobby or receptionist here. You just walk up the stairs and you’ll see us at the counter. We usually have a radio playing in the background while we work. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned way to run a business, but it works for us. We just focus on the tools and making sure we can find what the customer is looking for. It’s a small operation, but we stay busy enough.
