Delhi General Stores

We are located right in the thick of things at Shop No 5 in the New Cutlery Market. Being near Zaveri Bazaar in the Kalbadevi area means it is never quiet. There are carts and people pushing past each other at all hours of the day. It’s a very old part of Mumbai, and the buildings are all crowded together. My shop is quite small, but we carry a surprising amount of stock. Mostly we have small household items, some stationery, and basic groceries that the local workers need. The air is always thick with the smell of the city and the various things being sold nearby. I have to keep the items on the front display very organized or they get knocked over by someone passing too close. It’s a bit of a challenge to get new stock delivered because the lanes are so narrow that big trucks can’t get in. We have to carry things in by hand from the main road. I spend a lot of my time chatting with the other shopkeepers nearby; we all know each other well. It’s a tough place to work because of the heat and the crowds, but there’s an energy to it that I’ve grown to like. I don't use any fancy marketing tricks, I just put the prices on the items and wait for people to come in. It’s been this way for years, and we just keep going day by day in this corner of Kalbadevi.
