Our place is at Gala No. 35 in the Shere Panjab Sudha Industries building, which is over by the Pump House in Andheri East. If you know this part of Mumbai, you know it stays pretty busy all day with trucks and people moving things around. We spend most of our time here dealing with sarees that are going to be sent out to different countries. It’s not a fancy office or anything like that. It is more of a working space where we check the fabrics and make sure everything is packed up right before it leaves. Some days there are just stacks of boxes everywhere and we have to squeeze through the aisles to get to the desk. We’ve been in this building for a while now and the neighbors are all doing similar work. Usually, we start early because the heat gets a bit much later in the afternoon. People call us from all over asking about different patterns or when their shipment is arriving. It can be a lot of shouting over the noise of the machines and the traffic outside on the main road. We just keep at it, moving bundles from one corner to the other. Andheri East is a good spot for this because we are close to where the transport happens. It is a bit dusty sometimes and the stairs in the building are steep, but it is where we do our work every day. We don't have a big team, just a few of us making sure things go where they need to go.
