Canara Lunch Home

Our place is at Fort 283. If you know the Fort area, you know how crowded and noisy it gets during the day. We are right in the middle of all that. The building is old and the stairs are a bit narrow, but we have been serving lunch here for years. We don't have a menu that changes every day. We mostly stick to the same dishes because that is what we know how to cook well. The kitchen is small and it gets very hot back there when all the burners are going at once. We start chopping vegetables very early in the morning so everything is ready by noon. When the office workers start coming in, the whole place fills up in minutes. We have these heavy metal plates and we try to keep them moving. It is not a place for a long, quiet conversation. People come here to eat their meal and get back to their jobs. We don't have fancy decorations on the walls, just a few old calendars and maybe a clock that is a few minutes fast. The floor is made of old stone and it has seen a lot of feet over the years. We do our best to keep everything clean, but with the dust from the street and the rain in the monsoon, it is a constant job. We just provide a simple meal for people who are hungry.
