Britannia Stores is down in Colaba, but the address we use for mail is Po Banarghatta Main road 4. It’s an old-school kind of place. If you walk into our shop in Colaba, you’ll see shelves that have been there since my father’s time. They are made of thick wood and have some scratches on them. We sell all the basic stuff that people in the neighborhood need every day. It’s not like those big supermarkets where you don’t know anyone. Here, we know most of the people who walk in. We talk about the weather or the news while we bag their items. The ceiling is high, and we have an old fan that makes a clicking sound as it spins. We don’t use any fancy scanners; we just know the prices by heart. The area around us is always full of tourists and locals, but inside the store, it feels a bit slower. Sometimes we run out of things and have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s just how it is. We don’t have a big marketing plan or a social media page. We just open the doors early in the morning and close them late at night. It’s a steady life. The Colaba air is salty from the sea, and you can feel it on the storefront. We just keep doing what we’ve always done, day after day, for the folks living around here.
