Bearing Emporium

Our shop is located at 163/165 on Narayan Dhuru Street. We are up on the third floor in Room No. 31. If you know this street in Mumbai, you know how incredibly crowded and narrow it is. It’s a maze of shops and people carrying boxes everywhere. Our building is old and the stairs are steep, so getting up to the third floor takes a bit of effort. Once you get into Room 31, it is packed from floor to ceiling with bearings of all shapes and sizes. It’s a small space, and sometimes it feels like the shelves are closing in on you, but we know where everything is. We have been in this area for a long time, and we are part of the daily chaos of the market. There is no air conditioning, just some old ceiling fans that struggle against the Mumbai humidity. We spend our days digging through boxes and answering the phone. It’s a very manual process, and our hands are usually a bit greasy by the end of the shift. We don’t have a website or anything like that; people just know we are here in the same old room. We take our lunch at our desks and watch the street life from the window when we have a spare minute. It’s a hectic way to work, but it’s the only way we know in this part of town.
