Bansari Bandhani

Our shop is located in Unnat Nagar 4, tucked right between Chawl No 8 and Chawl No 10. It is a very local part of Goregaon West on New Anand Mahal Road. We are at Shop No 1. Because we deal with bandhani, the whole place is often filled with the vibrant colors of the dyed fabrics. There are rolls of cloth leaning against the walls and bundles of finished pieces sitting on the counter. The smell of the dyes and the fabric is always in the air. The shop is small and opens right onto the street, so we hear everything that goes on in the chawls next to us. It is a very lively neighborhood with kids playing outside and neighbors chatting. We have been here for many years and the wooden shelves are getting a bit old and rickety now. We don't have a fancy showroom or big lights. We just use the natural light from the doorway to show the colors of the bandhani to our customers. My hands are often stained with color by the time we close up for the night. We sit on small wooden stools and talk to the people who stop by. It is a very traditional way of working and we don't see any reason to change it. We just focus on the craft and the daily routine of the shop in our little corner of Goregaon.
